Battle Of The League Leaders

Last updated : 19 October 2004 By Richard Evans
The Vetch Field will witness a top of the table clash between League Two's early pace-setters in front of a sell-out crowd tonight....not bad for a miserable Tuesday evening!! Martin Ling's Leyton Orient travel to South Wales where they will attempt to fend off Swansea City, who lie just one goal behind tonight's visitors. After a 4-2 defeat at Southend at the weekend, Swansea will be looking to bounce back and immediately regain their place at the top of the pile...Swans MAD previews Tuesday night's top League Two fixture.

Leyton Orient arrive in South Wales on the back of an unbeaten four league game unbeaten run, with a 4-1 weekend victory snatching the top league
position from Swansea's grasp. As the top sides continue to beat each other, Orient have shown that if one side puts a few results together, then they will find themselves near the top of the pack in what is proving to be a very tight division. Victory over Shrewsbury followed a win at Notts County and two home draws against Boston and Bury...but on close inspection, it could be argued that Orient have so far avoided the most impressive League Two sides. However, this will soon be over as the O's must face Lincoln, Scunthorpe, on-form Chester and Mansfield in the immediate weeks.

However, Leyton Orient arrive in South Wales with the tag of "league leaders" and it will be up to Kenny Jackett to mastermind their downfall. In Gary Alexander and Lee Steele, Orient have two very capable strikers, while Matt Lockwood is always a danger from set-pieces. Alan White and John Mackie will provide the aerial threat while Jabo Ibehre is a young striker touted by many to move on to bigger and better things.

Last season, Swansea completed a double over Orient, with a Lee Trundle overhead-kick helping them to a 2-1 victory at Brisbane Road and a rare Alan Tate goal securing a 2-1 home result. Prior to last season however, Orient have proved to be one of Swansea's bogie teams over the last few years and you would have to delve back into the last century to uncover a previous Swansea victory.

Latest News:

Martin Ling has no fresh injury worries ahead of the game, although John Mackie will remain out.

Kenny Jackett is set to replace Alan Tate with Andy Gurney in defence, while Izzy Iriekpen remains on the casualty list.

So can Swansea regain their top spot by overcoming Tuesday's Vetch Field visitors? Or will Martin Ling's side grab three credible points and leave the Swans empty handed? Swans MAD will have the first detailed match report online...you'd be MAD to miss it!!
