Speaking to the Swans Official Site Bodde said:
"It's been a long nine weeks and my head has been all over the place. Yes, I've made mistakes along the way and I'd like to apologise to the Swans fans for all the uncertainty.
"I had my head turned by outside parties offering me the world and telling me that Derby was a bigger club because of their Premiership status last season.
"I was mixed up and thought Derby was a step forward. But having spent a long time thinking about it and meeting up with the squad again, I realise that 'bigger' isn't always 'better'.
"I love the club and I realise now that Swansea can be as big as it wants to be. The foundation is in place and there's a bright future ahead.
"Deep down I never wanted to leave Swansea because it's the club that gave me my chance in British football and the fans welcomed me and my family with open arms; but like I said, I had my head turned for a few weeks.
"Some of my quotes in the media were also taken out of context. They would be picked up in the Dutch media and by the time they were translated into English over here I was being misinterpreted.
"I'm not a fake and I am loyal. I wouldn't have stayed at ADO Den Haag for 14 years otherwise, would I?''
Roberto Martinez was absolutely delighted that Bodde has decided to commit his long-term future with the Swans and has asked Swans fans to back the player in the coming season. Martinez said:
It's fantastic news, It's a great statement and achievement for the club that we can hold on to a £2m-rated player. Ferrie has been a reality victim of modern football,'' explained Roberto, highlighting the Cristiano Ronaldo situation at Manchester United. "In every successful team there will be agents ready to make money on the back of the best players.
"Ferrie has had words and ideas put into his mouth to upset the situation and force him out of Swansea to create business for themselves.
"The worst thing is, those outside parties are not even Ferrie's official agent. His own agent has been great with us, but other people get involved to stir things up.''
"Let's be honest, Ferrie could have earned more money at Derby, so he certainly hasn't taken the money and run,'' added Roberto. "He's put football before finance. "His head is pretty clear now and he wants to play football for SwanseaCity. He wants to develop his own career here and help Swansea push for the Premiership. "I hope the fans take that on board. I can understand if the fans have been a bit upset by the whole situation, but judge him by his performances on the pitch "We've lost players in the summer to other clubs, but Ferrie has stayed with Swansea. I think that says it all. "The fans should give him a huge welcome and appreciate his decision to sign a new deal.'' |
