Bristol Rovers Defender Loaned To Swans

Last updated : 19 August 2005 By Richard Evans
Bristol Rovers Defender Christian Edwards has returned to the club where he began his career and has joined Swansea City on loan. Edwards will remain at the White Rock for an initial one-month period but it is understood that both clubs are keen to make the move permanent.

The much-travelled centre-back began his career at the Vetch Field in 1994 before joining Nottingham Forest in 1998 for £275k. Edwards then went on to make appearances for Bristol City, Tranmere, Oxford and Crystal Palace before eventually signing for Rovers in the summer of 2003. The one-time capped Welsh International has been a virtual ever-present for Bristol Rovers over the past two seasons but was transfer-listed in March as Ian Atkins attempted to cut the club's wage bill.

Edwards has been linked with a return to South Wales numerous times over the past few seasons and has always impressed in his team's appearances at the Vetch Field. The defender has been brought in as cover for Swansea's missing defensive trio and will be desperate to earn a permanent move to stay in League One.
