Swansea midfielder Leon Britton has signed a one year contract with the club, that could be extended to an extra season should the midfielder make a certain number of appearances. Britton had claimed that he was unsure about whether or not his future remained in South Wales after playing only a bit-part in Swansea's promotion campaign this season, yet has ended speculation by signing a new deal.
Britton originally joined the club on loan from West Ham in 2002/03 and became an instant hit with supporters, after playing a crucial role in saving the club from relegation. However, Britton has struggled to find his top form consistently under Kenny Jackett, meaning that the fans favourite was forced to watch on from the subsitute's bench for much of the season.
Despite interest from an un-named League One club and several League Two sides, including Leyton Orient, monitoring the midfielder's situation, Britton has opted to stay in South Wales for at least the next 12 months and be a part of next season's squad. Jackett has admitted that Britton may well play a large role next season, as Swansea look to play a 4-3-3 formation that is more suited to the midfielder's game.
