Kenny Jackett was preparing for the start of the new season without primary transfer target Andy Burgess last night, after it was revealed that the deal was in the balance. Burgess had been due in South Wales for talks over the weekend after the club agreed a fee with Rushden and Diamonds, yet the midfielder has informed Swansea that he will not be available until Friday.
''When we finally spoke to the player's agent he said Andy wouldn't be able to make it down to Swansea until next Friday", Huw Jenkins told the Evening Post. "We felt that said it all. 'We want players who will walk through the night to join Swansea and I hope our supporters see it the same way".
Kenny Jackett also expressed his frustrations with the latest twist in the long-running Burgess saga, claiming it was looking "less likely at the moment". "I'm not concerned, just frustrated that I've worked very hard this summer without much reward. It's taken a long time and the whole package is too expensive".
It is rumoured that an as-yet un-named club may have entered negotiations at the 11th hour, with Oxford United also showing interest. The U's are currently managed by Burgess' father-in-law Brian Talbot and could tempt the midfielder to make the shorter journey to the Kassam Stadium.
