Ex-Swansea midfielder Antonio Corbisiero is preparing for life outside of the Football League after signing a contract with Newport County on Tuesday evening. The talented youngster returns for his third spell at the Conference South side following two successful loan periods in the past and is hoping to find his feet quickly, so as to build his reputation in the non-leagues.
Just 12 months after being involved with the Swansea senior team that ran out against Northampton for the last ever opening day fixture at the Vetch Field, Corbisiero is preparing himself for the visit of Carshalton Athletic in the Nationwide Conference South. Despite an impressive pre-season in 2004, Corbisiero was restricted to the reserves under Jackett and was unsuprisingly told that he was surplus to requirements before the season had even finished in April.
Naturally, Corbisiero had hoped to find a contract as high up the footballing pyramid as possible, but after an unsuccessful trial period at Conference favourites Hereford United, "Corbs" is now fully focused on the job at hand at Spytty Park. Under the management of John Cornforth and alongside other ex-Swans such as Kwame Ampadu and Jason Bowen, Corbisiero will be hoping that his first full season of regular first-team football attracts higher league scouts, so that he may one day return to the Football League.
