Loanee Scott Fitzgerald has left Swansea after opting against extending his loan by a further month. The striker made four appearances for the League Two side but was forced to start from the substitute's bench for the majority of them. Jackett had stated that he would have liked to extend Fitzgerald's loan, but despite an acceptance on an extension in principal by Watford, Fitzgerald decided that he would prefer to battle for first team football back in the Championship.
Fitzgerald was originally signed to help ease a striking injury-crisis - making his impressive debut against Luton Town in the LDV Vans Trophy first round. However, Swansea's injury list soon eased up and the striker found himself relegated to the bench for the majority of his remaining games in South Wales, including brief appearances against Leyton Orient, Southend and Grimsby.
Despite being listed as an unused substitute for Swansea's other two October matches against Mansfield and Chester, Jackett had hoped that his promise of giving Fitzgerald first team football would not affect their decision of a loan extension. It appears that this was eventually not the case...and it was the player himself who opted to leave the club.
