Sacked Swansea manager Brian Flynn is waiting on the result from Wales' Wednesday night qualifier against Poland, to see if he will be successful in his application for the national position. After a poor start to the campaign, Wales' qualification hopes will virtually be over if beaten by Poland on Wednesday and it is believed that this could play a major role in the appointment of Mark Hughes' replacement.
It appears that if Wales pull off a good result in midweek, then John Toshack (also ex-Swansea) will take over the manager's position in an attempt to force the national side back into the qualifying reckoning. Any other result and the FAW are likely to appoint Flynn and current skipper Gary Speed as a management duo - with a view to the latter eventually taking full control.
Flynn's comments in the media suggest that he is desperate for the role and his cause has been lent weight by former Wales manager Terry Yorath. Yorath has told the national media that although he would rather see Toshack take over, he believes that Flynn will be appointed, with Speed acting as assistant manager. "If you said to me, 'what would your choice be?', I'd say 'John Toshack'" stated Yorath, "but I think it'll be Brian."
