Fulham Manager Chris Coleman has confirmed that he will bring his Premiership side to Swansea for a friendly match on July 23rd, for what could prove to be the new stadium's opening game. The friendly will be a testimonial for Alan Curtis, yet will be treated as a serious warm-up game by both sides.
However, health and safety regulations state that new stadiums must gradually build up to hosting a capacity fixture, which could stop Swansea being able to use the full 20,000 seats available. Bristol City are therefore being lined up to play at the new stadium a few days before the 23rd, so that the capacity can be gradually built up for Curtis' testimonial.
Fulham will bring a full first-team to South Wales, including a host of internationals such as Edwin van der Sar, Andy Cole and Steed Malbranque, as they prepare to depart for their tour of the USA just two days later. Swansea are still looking to play a friendly against "major opponents" on the last weekend before the beginning of next season, although any details are as yet unknown.
