After much speculation in the press in recent weeks, Mark Gower has finally joined the Swans from Southend.Gower has signed a performance-related deal running for a minimum of two years after deciding against a new contract at Southend. Both Blackpool and Nottingham Forest were also chasing the player.
A midfielder, he is predominantly right-footed but can play on either flank. He joined Southend from Barnet in the summer of 2003 for a fee of £25,000. He also played for the England schoolboys team. He scored 41 goals in over 250 appearances for Southend.
After losing out to Nottingham Forest for the services of Paul Anderson this is a welcome boost for both Martinez and Swans fans.
