Eight months after suffering last minute FA Cup heartbreak at the Madjeski Stadium, Kenny Jackett must return with his newly promoted squad in the first round of the Carling Cup. After the Swans had held on to a one goal-lead for 88 minutes, Reading's Ivar Ingimarsson equalised with a last-gasp volley during the team's third round encounter in January, before Nicky Forster ended the South Wales club's dreams in extra-time in a replay at the Vetch Field...and Swansea will be out for revenge.
The Carling Cup is traditionally a competition that Swansea usually leave at the first round, with defeats to Bristol City, Wolves and Peterborough in recent years. In fact, Swansea's last win in the competition was a 3-1 aggregate victory over Millwall in 1999, before Premiership Derby overcame the Swans in the second round. Last season saw Jackett returning to QPR for a 3-0 defeat, that eventually kick-started Swansea's season and saw captain Roberto Martinez returning to his central midfield spot.
Swansea will travel to the Madjeski Stadium on the week of the 22nd August.
