Swansea defender Izzy Iriekpen has claimed that he simply told referee Matt Messias that he was "shocking" on Saturday before being sent off. The ex-Premiership referee stated that the defender had been red-carded for foul and abusive language, but Izzy denies that is the case.
"I'm not going to lie", Izzy told the Evening Post, "...I told him he was shocking". " "He booked Leon for a 50-50 tackle and then didn't even give a free-kick when one of their players went in on Jonesy. It was a horrible tackle, a high one into the knee, but they ended up getting a free-kick. I lost it a bit and told the player and the ref what I thought".
Izzy is likely to face an extended ban for his dismissal as he failed to leave the pitch immediately and was held back for barraging further abuse at Messias by his equally-shocked team-mates. Messias has come under much criticism for the way he handled Saturday's match, with neutral Kevin Radcliffe claiming that he was more like "Huddersfield's 12th man".
