Latest Swansea v Cheltenham Team News
Last updated : 20 August 2004 By Richard Evans
Kenny Jackett will be hoping that Saturday’s League Two fixture will give him his first ever Vetch Field victory. After stuttering into the new season, his Swansea side must now start to produce the goods that have been promised all summer…and it begins with three points against Cheltenham tomorrow.
Jackett is boosted by the return of last season’s top-scorer Lee Trundle, who today declared himself “fully fit”. However, Jackett has remained cautious and hinted that Trundle will probably have to be satisfied with a place on the bench, as he isn’t willing to risk his recently-healed knee injury.
Also set to return is Bradley Maylett, who looks certain to start after Adrian Forbes’ recent mystery illness. Swansea are still awaiting blood test results for the new signing, after Forbes complained of feeling sluggish and extremely tired. After an impressive showing in the reserves in midweek, Maylett will probably replace Forbes, who will have to settle for a place on the bench.
Definitely out are Leon Hylton and Izzy Iriekpen, with Jackett not willing to risk the latter after a recent return from injury. Matt Somner is also ineligible after joining the club on trial from Brentford.
Visitors Cheltenham have their own injury worries ahead of Saturday’s trip to the Vetch. Club captain John Finnigan remains on the sidelines after sustaining an ankle injury against Cardiff in pre-season while stand-in replacement John Brough recently aggravated a knee injury – both will be out on Saturday. Martin Devaney, Damian Spencer and Graham Fyfe are all back in contention after recent knocks and ex-Swansea target Steve Guinan is also likely to feature.
So can Kenny’s Barmy Army grab three crucial points to get their season back on track?? As always Swans MAD will have a full match report and post-match reactions – you’d be MAD to miss it!!!
