The Spanish midfielder, 29, revealed only last month his desire for regular first-team football in the January transfer window having managed just one league start under new boss Brendan Rodgers this term - that coming in the opening-day defeat at Hull.
Lopez was Paulo Sousa`s first signing at the Liberty Stadium in the summer of 2009, penning a two-year deal, although he started a mere seven league games last season.
A settlement has now been reached on the remainder of his City contract, ending what has been a pretty miserable stint in south Wales for the former Real Madrid man who arrived from Sousa`s former club QPR with hopes high among Swansea fans he could be their talismanic asset in the middle of the park.
Lopez is now free to find a new club.
