Swansea manager Kenny Jackett has received mixed news regarding the state of his injured players, prior to Saturday's trip to Roots Hall. Garry Monk has been given the all clear by the doctor, meaning that he will be able to participate in Swansea's trip to Southend at the weekend. Jackett has claimed that he fully expects Monk to make the starting eleven after a horrible injury at Chester that left the defender unconscious.
However, reshuffling has been the name of the game in Swansea's defence in recent weeks and it appears that Andy Gurney may not train until next Monday. The defender reported yet more back pain and has been sent to Bristol for specialist advice. Jackett believes that rest may be the answer and told the Evening Post, "If it means him missing one game rather than it continuing on for longer into the season, then we will look at that".
Unfortunately, there will be no return for injury-plagued Izzy Iriekpen on Saturday as the defender aggravated the thigh injury he sustained against Kidderminster last month. This has set the defender's recovery back by at least two weeks, with a return against Grimsby far more likely.
