The central defender had already had good news at the start of this week after scans revealed he has ruptured a medial knee ligament and not damaged the same cruciate ligament that saw his miss almost the entire 2006/07 campaign.
But a further consultation with knee specialist Jonathan Webb on Tuesday has resulted in further upbeat news for Monk, who sustained the injury just minutes after scoring City`s opener in last Saturday`s 4-0 FA Cup victory over Colchester.
The Swans captain told the club`s official website: "I am still not happy to be out injured but considering I thought I would be out for nine months, this is a good result for me. It`s bitter sweet.
"Now I`ve got to work hard to get back as soon as possible, hopefully by the end of February or beginning of March."
