Swansea centre-back Garry Monk has been ruled out of action for at least two weeks following an injury in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Chester. Monk, who was signed on a free transfer in the summer, was knocked out after a collision with Chester striker Cortez Belle and required ten stitches on the inside of his mouth on Saturday night.
According to Football League guidelines, players who have been knocked out must sit out of the action for at least a fortnight, which would rule Monk out for future fixtures against Mansfield and Southend. However, Swansea are expecting the defender to make a speedy recovery and be back in contention for the first team before too long.
Swansea will also be hoping that fellow defender Andy Gurney will return from his back injury for this Friday's Mansfield game after he was withdrawn shortly before Saturday's kick-off. Should Gurney fail to recover in time, Swansea will be without half of their solid back-line that has earned them the best defensive record in the Coca Cola Leagues.
