Monk Suspension Officially Extended

Swansea will be without influential centre-back Garry Monk for the whole of the Christmas period after the Football Association of Wales increased his up-coming suspension to four games. The FAW originally dished out a three-game ban following Monk's actions at Shrewsbury in November, that saw referee Eddie Evans knocked to the floor, but have now decided to contraversially recharge him with technical assault.

Both Huw Jenkins and Kenny Jackett were present at last night's appeal, but neither could quite believe the outcome that has apparently left Monk distraught. Speaking to the Evening Post, Jackett said that Monk was "devastated" and felt sorry for him as it was "his career" that had been affected.

Monk will now certainly miss the home fixtures against Notts County, Boston United and Yeovil, plus a boxing day trip to Kidderminster Harriers. The new ruling means that Monk will have missed a total of six games through suspension from the event, after serving an original two game ban for the sending off.
