Swans physio Richie Evans speaking to Swansea City Official Site said:Angel's injury is a typical sportsman's hernia. He felt it towards the end of the season and that's why we pulled him out of a few games. The symptoms got better and we have tried to treat it conservatively over the summer. But when he stepped up his pre-season programme he started to feel it again. Surgery is always the last resort, but if everything goes ok he should be back for the first game of the season.
Jason picked up a stomach strain around Christmas time, added Evans. "We left him out for two weeks and when he came back it wasn't causing him a problem. But he felt the symptoms again over the summer and we felt it was best to have the operation. We aim to get him back in time for the trip to Spain later this month."
Pre-season operations for Rangel and Scotland
Angel Rangel had surgery on a hernia problem today which will rule him out for between four and six weeks, while striker Jason Scotland requires an operation on a long-term muscle problem that will sideline him for at least a fortnight. Both players are expected to be fit for the start of the season, Scotland should be available for the Swans Spanish tour.
