Ricketts Completes International Duty

Swansea full-back Sam Ricketts completed his Easter International duty this evening, as he played another full 90 minutes in Vienna in Wales' World Cup Qualifier against Austria. Ricketts has so far been an ever-present under new Manager John Toshack and earned his third cap as the Welsh were beaten by a goal to nil.

Once again, Ricketts put in an impressive display, as he played as a left-wing back in a young vibrant Welsh side. Wales dominated for much of the game, yet could not find the crucial finish in front of goal - eventually being made to pay by a late goalkeeping error by Danny Coyne. Ricketts infact almost helped to break the deadlock in the second half when he set up Ryan Giggs in the Austrian penalty area, after playing a neat 1-2 with Celtic's Craig Bellamy and then holding off two strong tackles - yet the Manchester United winger misfired.

Ricketts must now concentrate on his club's push for automatic promotion and will have been delighted to see that Swansea gained maximum points over the Easter period. The international full-back is likely to immediately force his way back into the starting line-up, with either Kevin Austin or Andy Gurney likely to make way.
