John Toshack has handed Swansea full-back Sam Ricketts his first call-up to the Welsh International squad. Ricketts, who qualifies for Wales through his grandmother, has been a crucial part in Swansea's rise to the automatic promotion spots in League Two and will join a host of Premiership stars for Wales' fixture against Hungary next month.

It has been an unbelievable rise in fortunes for the Swansea full-back, who was playing Conference football just eight months ago for Telford. During his spell in the non-league, Ricketts actually represented the England National Game XI but has accepted the call-up to the Welsh squad nevertheless.

Ricketts is one of four new faces in the squad, with Motherwell's David Partridge, West Ham's Gavin Williams and Sunderland's Danny Collins all selected in Toshack's first ever Welsh squad. Ricketts is one of only two players currently plying their trade outside the top two divisions, with Gary Roberts of League One Tranmere the other. Ricketts will certainly miss Swansea's trip to Mansfield next month as he is away on International duty.
