Swansea manager Kenny Jackett has moved quickly to name Roberto Martinez as next season's club captain, carrying on from where he left off last year. Martinez skippered Swansea to promotion to League One in May and remained a leader throughout, despite a number of high profile exclusions from the first team.
''He is a good leader, sets a very good example and has a lot of terrific qualities that you would associate with being a captain", Jackett told the Evening Post. "This time last year he played the first game of the season and then I left him out for the next two games. It was a big deal Press-wise that I had left him out and there was a lot of media attention on that decision".
Martinez returned with the rest of the squad for pre-season training on Friday and is set to begin his fourth season with the South Wales club.
