Welshpool's Gary Roberts has joined Swansea on a one week trial as Kenny Jackett looks to bolster his squad for a final promotion push. Roberts has recently attracted interest from a number of clubs, including a handful of unnamed league sides and Welsh title-contenders TNS, but has opted to attempt to win a contract in South Wales instead.
A former Liverpool junior, 21-yr old Roberts joined Bangor City in the summer of 2003 from Denbigh Town, making 20 appearances in total for the citizens. Roberts then moved to Welshpool last summer, where he has scored six goals in his 15 appearances to date.
TNS made an official approach for the winger last week but Roberts opted to put that move on hold, following the news that several Coca-Cola club scouts were present at Pool's 6-1 win last weekend. Whether or not Roberts proves his worth and convinces Jackett that he is good enough to compete at this level remains to be seen, but it appears that the Swansea manager is certainly open to plucking players out of the non-league system to add to his squad.
