A goal in each half from Darren Pratley saw off the misfiring home side, who have now failed to score in their last five games and are in danger of slipping back in to the npower Championship relegation zone.
However, Rodgers could hardly stop smiling after watching his side pass the ball slickly and close their opponents down with a high work-rate that leaves them sitting pretty in third place, one point off the automatic promotion spots.
"On and off the ball, we showed what we are about," he said. "It was right up there with our best displays of the season and I thought it was a wonderful performance.
"We managed to keep our best players on transfer deadline day and that was more important than making a lot of signings. I have tremendous faith in the current group of players and there were some terrific individual displays in the game.
"It's not often the away side are applauded off by the home supporters. But that said it all about the way we played and we can draw huge confidence from the game."
