Joe Garner`s penalty punished wasteful Swans who had failed to take their chances and duly sunk to only their second defeat in nine games.
"Obviously we have got to be disappointed with the result," Rodgers said. "On a difficult pitch we had enough of the game to have done better.
"We always knew Scunthorpe was going to be a difficult game because they are a team fighting for their lives. They had done well in their previous three home games and we totally understood it was going to be a tough game."
He added: "We're not really concentrating on league positions at the moment, more the performances because there is a process to getting to be where we want to be.
"We know where we want to be on the last game of the season and it's important we understand how we are going to arrive there - and for us that's about playing our own game. I would dearly love to take this club to the highest level and we have some hungry players with real ambitions to do that."
