"So far training has been different class," he said. "It's been really enjoyable and a lot different to last season.

"Everything is a lot shorter and sharper with more football fitness, which is what we need."

Sousa left Swansea to take over at Leicester and Rodgers was unveiled last Friday after a 12 day hunt for a new manager.

He took his first session on Monday after watching from the stands as the Swans beat Yeovil 1-0 at Huish Park on Saturday.

"All the training drills in the first three sessions were new - I've never done anything like it before and it was really enjoyable," added Tate, who is Swansea's longest-serving player.

"He's obviously brought a lot of thing with him, things he's learnt over 15 years as a coach including his experiences under the likes of Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.

"He's definitely given everyone a lift and all the lads are buzzing in training.

"The boys have trained well and, while we are still a long way from full fitness, I'm sure that will come. All the signs are positive for the new season.''

And Rodgers has been equally impressed by what he's seen so far from his new squad.

"I've seen plenty of quality here some outstanding talent,'' the former Reading and Watford boss told

Swansea City's website

.

"They like to play with charisma and aggression here. It's been built into their DNA over the last few years and you can see it on the training ground and the pitch.

"They've really worked hard and taken everything on board. I've been very impressed with their application.''

Meanwhile youngster Kerry Morgan will begin training again after scans revealed he did not break any bones in his foot - as first feared - in the Swans friendly with Port Talbot.
