Southend earned the final promotion spot from League Two after they won the playoff final at the Millenium Stadium on Saturday. The Shrimpers will now join Yeovil, Scunthorpe and Swansea in next season's League One competition and have ended their seven-year association with the basement division.
In a tense playoff final, Southend beat Keith Alexander's Lincoln 2-0, courtesy of goals from Freddy Eastwood and Duncan Jupp to earn the promotion that the league table suggested they had deserved. It was yet more heartbreak for Lincoln fans who have seen their side beaten for the third successive season in the playoffs - two of those being finals.
League One sides now await the final result in tomorrow final between Sheffield Wednesday and Hartlepool to see which side takes the final spot in next year's line-up.
