Swansea's new 20,000 all-seater stadium will be known as........."The New Stadium". After holding off the decision for more than a year and searching for a sponsor that would hopefully guarantee at least £250k per season, the council have been forced to give the new arena the bland title, with a spokesman claiming "If we give it a more specific title, even a temporary one, it will be a less attractive proposition for potential sponsors".
The move has been heavily slated by numerous critics, including Labour representative David Phillips, who described the situation as "pathetic and worrying". Speaking to the Western Mail, Phillips stated "We have no sponsorship and the stadium opens on Saturday. We all want this stadium to be a huge success and I will be there on Saturday cheering on the Swans. The way the council and Stadco are doing things is giving cause for grave concern".
Another Labour representative claimed that the new name was "completely without imagination". After over a year of being promised that naming rights are just around the corner, Swansea supporters will just be hoping there is an end to this saga sooner, rather than later.
