Rushden and Diamonds have confirmed that the transfer of Andy Burgess to Swansea is now officially off, according to the club's official website. The brief statement claims that despite the two clubs agreeing a fee, negotiations between the Swans and Burgess have "broken down" and the transfer has been cancelled.
It seems that after a six-month "will-he, won't he" saga, Andy Burgess will not be joining Swansea, as was previously expected. Burgess had previously appeared extremely keen to make the move to South Wales, yet stalled on negotiations with Swansea, leaving both Chairman Huw Jenkins and Kenny Jackett questioning his enthusiasm for the move.
Swindon Town could be the reason that the move has broken down, with the fellow League One club apparently now willing to spend the £90k needed to seal a deal for Burgess. The ex-Premiership side now have a small transfer kitty available after selling star striker Sam Parkin to Ipswich for £750k last week and it is believed that Burgess remains their top transfer target.
