Swansea have opted against making a permanent move for Bristol Rovers' Christian Edwards, with the ex-Nottingham Forest defender set to return to the Memorial Stadium in two weeks time. Edwards re-joined the Swans on loan a fortnight ago to help cover the club's crippling injury and suspension problems and was hoping to win a deal to return to the club where he began his career.
However, the return of Kris O'Leary and Izzy Iriekpen to the centre of defence for the Swans, plus the imminent return from of injury of Garry Monk, means that Edwards now finds himself surplus to requirements in South Wales. Bristol Rovers had also hoped to off-load the centre-back, as he is the highest earner in the struggling League Two outfit's squad.
Edwards should not be too downhearted at the news. After two solid performances for the Swans, there will surely be no shortage of takers should Rovers decide to release him.
