Swansea full back Leon Hylton has had his contract paid up by the club and released with immediate effect. The England Under-20 International signed on a free transfer from Aston Villa in the summer of 2003, but found first team opportunities limited after an injury-crocked 18 months.
Brian Flynn initially signed Leon Hylton on loan during Swansea's 2002/03 battle against relegation - a move that was made permanent soon after the club confirmed it's league status for another season. However, with the exception of a few cameo roles, Hylton has largely been a spectator since his free transfer, caused by a number of unfortunate injuries meaning he had yet to play a minute of first team action this season.
It appears that this decision by the board makes good business sense, with the full back long-forgotten by even the most die-hard of Swansea supporters. Hylton must now attempt to regain full fitness and prove to another professional outfit that his future lies within football.
