Local media are reporting that Swansea have tabled a bid for Rushden midfielder Andy Burgess. The offer is thought to be around the £75k mark - a bid that Rushden are expected to accept following their recent financial difficulties and money that Swansea can now afford following their £150k windfall from their live Sky fixture on Monday night.
Although Burgess originally began life as a left winger, he was soon moved to a more central role by Brian Talbot, who described him as a "revelation" in his new position. Burgess was a huge influence in their promotion-winning season and went on to make 37 appearances in Division Two last season, scoring four goals. Presumably, Kenny Jackett is looking at Burgess as a player that can add competition in both the left and central midfield roles.
Judging by the apparent size of the bid, it appears that Swansea may be considering pulling out of any deal for Bristol City's Marc Goodfellow, who was thought to be available at around £50k. Nevertheless, such a bid will surely underline Swansea's intentions and show that they are still looking to improve a squad that already looks capable of achieving automatic promotion come May.
