The Swans look likely to start their season opener on August 9 against Charlton Athletic without Spanish right-back Angel Rangel. Angel is still recovering from a recent operation for a groin strain. In an interview with the Evening Post Rangel said:
"I think Charlton may be too early for me, it's a big disappointment for me."
"Last season was very good for me and now we are all looking forward to starting out in the Championship.
"We all want to be part of the team that starts the season but I can't think about the first game.
"Right now I'm thinking about getting my recovery right and getting fit when I can, not about coming back for a certain game."
"I felt my groin at the end of last season, but after missing three games I came back for the last two and thought I was okay," he added.
"When I went on holiday and was resting I was okay, but then when I started to exercise again over the summer I felt the same pain.
"I called the physio straightaway and he told me to come back to Swansea.
"I came back earlier than the rest of the players and went to see the expert in London who said I needed the operation."
Let's hope that Angel has a speedy recovery and is back playing before the season starts. It is more likely, however, that he will return at the back-end of August. Time will tell.
