Swansea remain upbeat that they can overcome their recent record of successive defeats this season, after losing their impressive home form to Bury on Saturday. Defeat left the Swans in second, but the chasing pack are now once again within touching distance after results did not go the South Wales club's way. However, despite losing their second successive fixture of the season, Kenny Jackett has told fans not be too downhearted as the nature of both defeats was somewhat unusual.
Swansea lost their first game at struggling Shrewsbury ten days ago, but appeared to be on the wrong end of baffling refereeing decisions and saw two players sent off in the first half alone. Last weekend's defeat not only saw a heavily below-strength Swansea side take the field following suspensions to FIVE first team players, but also two debutants, a handful of players making their first appearances for several weeks and full-back Andy Gurney called into an unfamiliar central midfield role.
With four of the five suspended players set to return for Oxford in ten days time, Jackett believes that this latest run has been a mere hiccup in an otherwise successful season so far. "We possibly paid the price from last week" Jackett told the Western Mail, ""It's a big test now for myself and the players, but they're good games and good opposition for us to bounce back against".
