Tate was sent off during the 4-0 defeat at QPR on Boxing Day following a melee which also saw Rangers` Clint Hill dismissed.
Both defenders saw red for violent conduct, thus incurring a three-match ban, but the Swans have chosen to appeal the decision which means vice-captain Tate can face Barnsley.
If the appeal fails, Tate`s three-match ban could be increased while Rodgers may look to make changes following Sunday`s hammering at Loftus Road.
Rodgers said: "It wasn`t a good day for us, but with games coming thick and fast we can`t dwell on it. We`ve got to get this performance out of our system straight away and go again."
Tom Butler (thigh) and Ferrie Bodde (knee) remain long-term absentees.
