Southend finally ended Swansea's fantastic unbeaten run on Saturday, that had seen them battle their way to the top spot in League Two and made the top of the table extremely tight in the process. Just six points now seperate the top fifteen sides in the division, with no specific team looking better than all the rest. But is it finally a good thing that Swansea's run has come to an end?
On the face of it, Swansea were well beaten on Saturday and deserved nothing from the game due to spells of diabolical defending. Those defenders that have been praised so highly in recent weeks showed that they were indeed human and made a number of errors...that were all punished. However, even in defeat, Swansea showed fighting qualities that have been absent in teams of the past and despite not dominating the game, still remained a threat throughout.
Kenny Jackett will surely have believed that his side's run would have eventually been ended...and perhaps Saturday was the best time for that to end. Swansea now have two home games in a row - a great chance to regroup, regain composure and grab six points that will keep them top. Saturday's defeat may also bring a few players back down to earth and make them realise that they cannot turn up to win matches. Nevertheless, last weekend's result cannot be seen as "all bad" and Jackett will be hoping that he can improve the side's performance against Orient on Tuesday night...with an excellent result.
