The Swans had to make do with a share-of-the-spoils as Andy Carroll's late equaliser for the vistors cancelled out David Cotterill's goal at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.
"Football sometimes is cruel," Sousa said after the 1-1 draw.
"I think everyone can agree with me that Newcastle are the best side in the league but we are the best team to play football and we deserved more than we got today.
"We were much better than them in everything, we deserved to win by miles.
"We must be proud of the way we played as they recognised that we have the quality to operate against different opponents.
"There is no doubt that we are the best footballing side in the Championship and we showed it today.
"It was a great goal by David with great quality.
"We had other opportunities to score."
