QPR eased into the second round of the Carling Cup - and notched their first win of the season - as they comfortably beat ten-man Swansea.
Jamie Cureton was left unmarked to score in the 39th minute with a sweet volley after Gino Padula put him through with a curling free-kick, awarded after Adrian Forbes handled just outside the area.
And Martin Rowlands doubled QPR's lead 14 minutes from time when he stabbed home the rebound from Marcus Bean's shot which had hit the post.
Kevin Gallen had a chance to notch a third for Rangers four minutes from time with a penalty after Kevin Austin was sent off for felling Kevin McLeod in the area, but he blasted his spot-kick on to the crossbar.
But he made up for his mistake in stoppage-time when he calmly lobbed his shot into the net when keeper Willy Gueret was well off his line.
Forbes came very close to gifting the home side a goal just before the break when his misjudged back header rolled inches wide of his own goal.
QPR were hampered in their efforts to play the ball by a bruising Swansea side, but Paul Furlong carved out the first home chance in the 12th minute, when his 25-yard effort was parried clear by Gueret.
Then on 18 minutes Cureton got in on the act from a similar distance but his shot went just wide.
Padula almost got his name on the scoresheet in the 38th minute with a long-range lob which grazed the outside of the crossbar.
The Argentinian then forced Gueret into a diving save six minutes after the break from 25 yards, before crossing for Gallen 15 minutes from time, only for the striker to head over the bar.
Swansea's only chance of the first half came in the 33rd minute when Kris O'Leary's free-kick went wide after he had been felled just outside the area by Terrell Forbes.
Danny Shittu, making his first start for seven months after a knee ligament injury, was a surprise name on the QPR team sheet but could only last 20 minutes before being substituted to a standing ovation.
And fans' favourite Marc Bircham also came on for his first appearance of the season for goalscorer Cureton just after the break.
