On a cold, wet and decidedly windy night, Swansea City turned on the style in front of their Home faithful as they take the 3 points and go 2 points clear at the summit of League One.
Roberto Martinez made no fewer than 8 changes from the Horsham match with the 4-2-3-1 formation returning which proved successful against Hartlepool.
Line Up:
de Vries
Rangel - Tate - Lawrence - Painter
Bodde - Pratley
Anderson - Britton - Robinson
Scotland
Subs: Austin, Orlandi, Bauza, Butler, Feeney.
Attendance: 10,957
Referee: S D Cook
Swansea started positively, in the sixth minute Anderson delivered a delightful ball only to see Jason Scotland head marginally wide of the target.
All the pressure paid off with Anderson crossing in and seeing his cross half cleared only for Leon Britton to set up Jason Scotland, the Trinidad & Tobagan Striker finding the top corner for 1-0.
And within 45 seconds of fans returning to their seats, they were up applauding another fine move. Jason Scotland broke the offside trap before unselfishly pulling back for Pratley to drill home from 18 yards and it was 2-0.
Northampton had a good chance to pull one back but a free header in the penalty area was well saved by de Vries
Man Of The Match Scotland was sent clear by Robinson but Northampton's keeper was out sharply to smother the ball.
Andy Kirk thought he'd brought it back to 2-1 but the frontman saw his effort correctly ruled out for offside.
HALF-TIME: Swansea City 2-0 Northampton Town
Robinson then thought he had got the third as Bodde played a lovely cross in and Robinson finished only for the flag to raise for Offside.
Ferrie Bodde skimmed the Northampton post from 25 yards with a shot that beat Mark Bunn but also beat the woodwork.
Bunn then again denied Scotland with an excellent save as Swansea kept the pressure on.
Bodde then tried his luck from all of 35 yards which flew just wide which showed the confidence that the Swansea team had.
ANDY ROBINSON replaced by TOMMY BUTLER
Swansea were then awarded a penalty as a corner was whipped in and Guy Branston was adjudged to have tugged back Dennis Lawrence. There was a battle for the right to take the penalty with Regular taker Andy Robinson subbed, it was time for Jason Scotland to get his second and he sent Bunn the wrong way for 3-0.
Dorus de Vries was forced into a save by Bradley Johnson and at the other end Jason Scotland was eager to earn his Hat Trick but Bunn saved again and he then denied Anderson after the pacy winger broke the offside trap.
JASON SCOTLAND replaced by GUILLEM BAUZA
MARCOS PAINTER replaced by KEVIN AUSTIN
And Swansea ended the game with much possession as they looked to keep a clean sheet.
We now stay top by 2 points after Nottingham Forest's 1-0 loss at Walsall and Millwall's shock 1-0 win at Leyton Orient while Carlisle comprehensively beat Swindon 3-0.
