Swansea's injury crisis is beginning to bite as they dropped more home points and failed to score at the Vetch Field for the third successive game.
Without leading scorer Lee Trundle, skipper and playmaker Roberto Martinez and winger Brad Maylett, the Swans lacked direction and the cutting edge and the early return of these players is required to keep Swansea's promotion hopes on track.
In a match of few chances, Andy Robinson could have been the toast of Swansea nine minutes from time when he worked his way into the Rovers area, but former Swan Christian Edwards raced across to block his goalbound shot.
"The block by Edwards was outstanding as Andy was definitely on target," said Swansea boss Brian Flynn.
"It was a chance saved rather than one lost and although we have failed to score in our last three games here, that was a second clean sheet in a row for us so that is pleasing.
"I don't mind us dropping a place in the division because next month we should have all our players back and should be in the top six at Christmas." Neither goalkeeper was troubled during an afternoon punctuated by referee Andy D'Urso's whistle. He signalled 30 free-kicks during a stop-go afternoon and also found time to book two players from either side.
Rovers manager Ray Graydon and leading scorer Paul Tait were both left at home suffering from influenza and John Still took control in Graydon's absence.
"We looked solid at the back but as the game went on we needed to weather some late pressure," Still said.
"Ryan Williams did well on his debut, despite lacking match practice, and he will give us some different attacking options, but make no mistake this was a game we definitely wanted to win."
