A brace from Dave Kitson sent injury ravaged Swansea slipping to their first home defeat of the season - 2-0 against Cambridge United.
Kitson bagged his first inside 23 seconds of the start as he raced through a hesitant home defence to lob advancing keeper Roger Freestone.
Although the Swans went looking for the equaliser and kept visiting keeper Shaun Marshall busy for a spell Cambridge were dangerous on the break and the excellent Kitson added a second on the hour.
Player-manager John Taylor held the ball up on the right and slipped a precision pass behind the defence for Kitson to race onto and stroke into the corner of the net.
Swansea’s injury problems were compounded when Brad Maylett was stretchered but they must now be anxiously awaiting the return to fitness of leading scorer Lee Trundle.
"Injuries are becoming contagious at this club" said Swansea Brian Flynn.
"We lost Kris O'Leary at 6pm with a sore back and now all the injuries have caught up with us, we responded well to that early goal and created chances but they defended well and held us out." "Maylett has torn his hamstring to add to our horrendous injury list and he is now going to be out for six to eight weeks. Once they scored their second it was really all over but I was pleased with the way we still kept going.
“We are now in a drastic situation with injuries and I am working hard to bring a couple of players in before Saturday but it is unlikely Trundle will be fit to play." Cambridge have the best away record in the Division and Taylor was very pleased with his side’s performance.
He said: "We are very confident away from home and the first goal showed just that. We took a bit of a battering for 15 minutes but then we took over and were well on top. The second goal decided it but in fairness with all their injuries it was a good time to play Swansea.â€
