The Swans failed to end the season on a winning note when relegated York held out for a deserved draw.

Paul Connor was Swansea's busiest player and he brought a couple of smart saves from York keeper Chris Porter and even found the net in the 24th minute only to have his effort ruled out for an infringement.

The big surprise at the start was leading scorer Lee Trundle being left on the bench although he was given a half hour run-out late on without causing problems for the Minstermen's defence.

"Lee is a good player and definitely in my plans for next season," said Swans boss Kevin Jackett who is still looking for his first victory at the Vetch.

"Lee is someone I am looking forward to working with next season and there was certainly no snub intended by leaving him out of the starting line-up. I am all about rewarding consistency and it was a good performance last week at Darlington and that is why I started with Lee on the bench." Having dispensed with most of their experienced players York fielded five teenagers but while they looked a little lightweight, they were not short on enthusiasm.

"It was a good performance against a decent Swansea side and the youngsters showed the right attitude with a tremendous work-rate," said York player-manager Chris Brass.

"During the summer I hope to be able to bring in a few experienced players to help these young lads out next season but all of them are fully aware of the culture change that begins at the club next week.

"Unfortunately we have been badly let down by the experienced players and we have paid a heavy price."
