Two goals in four second half minutes allowed Swansea to regain their place at the top of League Two, in this rescheduled fixture against much-fancied Darlington. After falling behind in the first half courtesy of a Craig Liddle goal against the run of play, Swansea came back in style through strikes from Lee Trundle and Andy Robinson and allowed Kenny Jackett's boys to regain their top spot.
Jackett made one change from the side that won 3-1 at Cheltenham at the weekend, with Andy Gurney replacing Alan Tate at right back in an attempt to foil Darlington's ex-Premiership strikeforce of Wijnhard and Armstrong. A notable absentee from Darlington's starting line-up was Craig Hignett, who was missing through injury.
Darlington had clearly come to defend at the Vetch and both sides looked somewhat cagey in the first 15 minutes. However, Swansea soon settled and created a string of chances, with Trundle, Robinson, Connor and Ricketts all testing the visiting keeper.
However, it was Darlington that opened the scoring somewhat against the run of play after 25 minutes, with Craig Liddle powering home from just inside the box, although his shot appeared to take a large deflection off of Andy Gurney.
Kris O'Leary and Adrian Forbes both tested the visiting keeper again before the break, but Darlington appeared happy to sit back and defend their one goal lead.
After a scrappy first half, Swansea returned from the break looking for an immediate equaliser, which almost came through skipper Robbie Martinez during a frantic goalmouth scramble.
Just minutes later, Swansea grabbed the goal that their performance had deserved, when Roberto Martinez set up Lee Trundle to fire home the equaliser.
The goal had clearly lifted the home side and four minutes later, Andy Robinson fired the home side into the lead, after the visiting goalkeeper could only parry Andy Gurney's fierce drive.
Despite some nervy moments late on in both penalty boxes, Swansea defended well and could have further extended their lead when substitute Kevin Nugent headed against the woodwork in injury time.
Swansea fully deserved their victory against more than capable opposition and now leapfrog Scunthorpe to sit at the summit of League Two. More importantly, a four point gap has now opened between second and third position as the top two attempt to pull away.
