It was an excellent performance from start to finish, Swansea's midfield pulling the strings with Bodde and Pratley excelling in the centre.

Swansea started moderately well, dominating the possession but it was Southend who maybe should have taken the lead when a clumsy looking challenge by Garry Monk may have seen a penalty awarded, luckily appeals were correctly waved away.

But Swansea then took the game by the scruff of the neck as Bodde played an inch perfect ball for the lively on loan winger Paul Anderson who controlled the ball at the byline and crossed in for Warren Feeney to get a strong header into the back of the net to send the home fans into raptures.

It was an early substitution for Swansea City in the 31st minute as Warren Feeney was stretched off with Ankle Ligament damage, Guillem Bauza subsequently replaced him.

Nicky Bailey committed two rash fouls in the space of a minute which were both met with Yellow Cards and finally a Red to see the Southend midfielder take an early bath.

If Swansea were in the comfort zone before the sending off, they were now in complete control as the defence and midfield passed amongst themselves before the half time whistle after 5 minutes of Injury time.

Half-Time: Swansea City 1-0 Southend United

After a great surging run, Ferrie Bodde should have scored, he took the ball from near the half way line and found himself in the penalty area, his first shot was blocked as was his second which gave Southend time to clear.

But, the home crowd didn't have long to wait for the elusive second with the Excellent Paul Anderson's cross deflecting into right back Angel Rangel's path, the defender showing great compusure to wait for one defender to pass and unleash the ball into the away net.

Thomas Butler replaces Paul Anderson

Robinson was then fouled by Garry Richards in the penalty area and it was the number 18 to step up to take it only for Collis in the United goal to save and keep the scorline at 2-0.

Robbo then nearly made up for his blunder from the spot, unleashing an effort from 25 yards which skimmed the outside of the post.

It was then Leon Britton's turn to skim the woodwork as his great effort looked goalbound.

Ferrie Bodde then stung the fingertips of Steve Collis with a 25 yard drive.

Andrea Orlandi replaces Andy Robinson

Tommy Butler grabbed the third with both substitutes combining with Marcos Painter whose cross was glanced in by Butler.

Full-Time Swansea City 3-0 Southend United

In truth, on the performance, it should have been 5 maybe 6 nil with Dorus de Vries not having a thing to do and Robinson having his penalty saved. It's a great 3 points though against one of the promotion rivals.
